NOT A D0UBLE DATE

Scene:  On The Phone

Athlete:  ÒHello is this Jenifer? Hi, itÕs Paul. Remember me from the seminar?

Message Therapist:  ÒYes, of course. How are you doing? ThatÕs good IÕm so glad you called. I have been thinking about what you said in front of the group yesterday, about how we sensor our true emotions and passions. So much so that people are afraid who they truly are.Ó

Paul:  ÒI wasnÕt too sure if people knew what I was getting at. We have so many hangups in our social behavior these days.Ó

Jenifer:  ÒYes, I know what you mean. So many people are afraid to talk about sensuality and sexual pleasures.Ó

Paul: ÒHey, what are you doing later today? Would you like to meet at a cafŽ down the street from the hotel?Ó

Jenifer:  ÒSure that will be great. What time are you thinking?Ó

Paul:  ÒHow about two?Ó

Jennifer:  ÒTwo sounds good. Would you mind if my friend Maggie joins us.Ó

Paul:  ÒNo, not at all. I could ask if my associate wants to join us, if thatÕs OK with you.

Jenifer:  ÒSure, that will workout perfectly. My friend needs to get out away from work. SheÕs involved in the seminar as a consultant; she is one of the psychologists.Ó

Paul:  ÒMy associate, Robert, is a practitioner, who gave a presentation on religion.Ó

Jenifer:  ÒOh yes, I remember him. He had some good points; however, I didnÕt agree with all he said. Some of it seemed a little dogmatic.Ó

Paul:  ÒYeah, he can get that way sometimes. Maybe we should get your friend on the line to see if she is up for meeting at two.Ó

Jenifer:  ÒOK, IÕll give her a call now. Hold on IÕll get her on the line.Ó

Paul:  ÒOK IÕll hold.Ó

The phone rings and Maggie answers.

Jennifer:  ÒHey Maggie itÕs me. What are you doing around two today?Ó

Maggie:  ÒHi Jen. Well, not much, just relaxing. Why?

Jenifer:  ÒHow would you like to meet with me and Paul, who spoke at the seminar. He seems like a very nice guy, and heÕs hot.Ó

Maggie:  ÒSure. That sounds like something I can use; a little relaxing get together.Ó

Jenifer:  ÒAnd he is going to see if his associate, Robert, who also gave a presentation yesterday.Ó

Maggie:  ÒJen, are you setting up a double date situation? IÕm not into blind dates.Ó

Jenifer {laughs}:  ÒNo, I wouldnÕt do that to you. Just a few of us hanging out at a cafŽ on a sunny afternoon.Ó

Maggie:  Òif thatÕs all it is, I can go with that.Ó

Jenifer:  ÒHey, let me get Paul back on the line. Hello Paul, I have Maggie on the line.Ó

Paul:  ÒHi Maggie. Are you able to join us?Ó

Maggie:  ÒYes I had nothing planned, and it seems like a perfect way to relax.Ó

Paul:  ÒGreat, IÕm glad you can join us. Jenifer mentioned that you helped with organizing the seminar. That must have been challenging with all those pumped up egos.Ó

Maggie:  ÒMy job was philological consultant, and I wound up getting involved with being a mediator.Ó

Jenifer:  ÒHey Paul, maybe you should get Robert on the line, to see if he could join us.Ó

Paul:  ÒHold on, IÕll call Robert. And IÕll put him on a four way, he then wonÕt be able to refuse to join us.Ó

Jennifer:  ÒI like that, peer pressure.Ó

Paul:  ÒHello Robert. You will be going out this afternoon to a cafŽ with two terrific women, and me of course. What do you have to say to that?Ó

Robert:  ÒAre you messing with me Paul?Ó

Paul:  ÒSay hello to Jenifer and Maggie.Ó

Jenifer:  ÒSo Robert, are you going to hang with us?Ó

Robert:  ÒWow! ThatÕs inviting. Much better than your voice Paul.Ó

Maggie:  ÒHello Robert; so what are you doing this afternoon?Ó

Robert:  ÒHi Maggie and Jenifer, IÕd be stupid not to join you both, and Paul of course on such a beautiful day.Ó

Paul:  ÒYour damn straight. I can understand turning me down, but not two lovely women.Ó

Maggie:  ÒJen, itÕs a man thing.Ó

Scene Two:  At The CafŽ.

Paul arrives first. He looks around for a table and for Jenifer. He walks over to an empty table with just the right amount of sun. he goes to sit a the table, and checks his phone. He receives a text from Robert. It says, ÒIÕm running late, should be there in 15 or 20.Ó

Paul whispers to himself, ÒDonÕt keeps us waiting, you might miss out.Ó Paul spots Jenifer and waves her over. Maggie and Jenifer head over to the table. He puts his phone down, gets up, and greets them both, giving them a polite hug.

Paul:  ÒHey ladies, this is nice. Is this too much sun, or would you like it sunnier?Ó

Maggie:  ÒOh itÕs perfect. Nice to meet you Paul.Ó

Jenifer:  ÒIt would be even more perfect with some drinks.

Maggie:  ÒI second that!Ó

Jenifer:  ÒWhere is your friend Robert?Ó

Robert: ÒMy associate is running late.Ó

Maggie:  ÒSo you both work together.Ó

Paul {they take their seats}:  ÒHeÕs the teams inspirational speaker. Mainly a bit of religious pep talks. So what will you ladies like to have? They have a full bar, and a good selection of wine and beer, and coffee, tea and some food.Ó

Maggie {looking around for a menu}:  ÒI think IÕll look at a wine list. Has anyone seen the waiter?Ó

Jenifer:  ÒI feel like something stronger. Maybe a cognac.Ó

Paul {spots the waiter, and signals for his attention}:  ÒWhat kind of wine do you like Maggie?Ó

Maggie:  ÒBasically red, like Pinot, a Cab, or a Chianti.Ó

The waiter appears at the table with the menus:  ÒCan I get you folks anything?Ó

Paul {looking up}:  ÒOh, give us a few minutes, and just water for now, thank you?Ó

Waiter:  ÒSo thatÕs three waters?Ó

Paul:  ÒMake that four waters. We have another person joining us.Ó

Waiter:  ÒOK, IÕll be right back with the water.Ó

Jenifer {putting the menu down}:  ÒOh waiter, I already know what I want. IÕll have a Courvoisier over ice, thank you.Ó

Waiter:  ÒYou got it. The rest of you take your time and IÕll be back with the water and one Courvoisier over ice.Ó

A moment later Robert appears at the table.

Paul:  ÒHi Robert, I see you found us. Let me introduce you to Jenifer and Maggie. Ladies this is Robert. Now that your acquainted, have a seat.Ó

Robert {pulling out the chair}:  ÒdonÕt mind if I do. Did you all order yet?Ó

Paul: No, just water and a cognac is on the way. There are the menus, help yourself.Ó

Robert:  ÒYes, thank you. IÕll see what beers they have.Ó

Robert picks up a menu and starts to read it. Maggie puts down her menu, and looks up at Paul.

Paul {turns to Maggie}:  ÒMaggie itÕs so nice that you joined us. So how did you and Jennifer meet? Have you known each other long?Ó

Robert {looking away from the menu}:  ÒThey probably met at the seminar.Ó

Paul {glares at Robert}:  ÒI was asking Maggie, Robert.Ó

Robert:  ÒOh, sorry.Ó

Maggie:  ÒWe became friends at UCXX. We were both taking some of the same classes, and Jen would make it a bit more interesting. She really didnÕt care what the professors thought of her questions.Ó

Robert:  ÒI really didnÕt care about most of the studentÕs questions either.Ó

Jenifer {glancing over Robert}:  ÒThe truth is that Maggie kept on seeding me, and I would have an arsenal of questions. Sometimes they didnÕt even make sense to me. However, I had confidence in MaggieÕs understanding of the studies.Ó

Paul:  ÒYeh, what kind of questions? Do you remember any?Ó

Maggie:  We would have to put it in context. Jenifer darling, could you help me out with this?Ó

Robert:  ÒYes, IÕm sure she could.Ó

Maggie:  ÒReally.Ó

Jenifer {takes a moment to recall, then puts on a huge smile}:  ÒOK, I got a good one. The instructor was taking about the sexual expectations of Men and women. He was saying that menÕs expectations are mainly based on fantasies, and that womenÕs expectations are mainly based on feeling safe and protected, and being loved.Ó

The Waiter arrives with four waters and one Courvoisier. Jenifer waits for her Courvoisier attentively.

Waiter {sets the waters down on the table and holds up the cognac}:  ÒCourvoisier for the lady?Ó

Jenifer:  ÒYes, thank youÓ

Waiter:  ÒCan I take your order?Ó

Robert {Holding up the menu and pointing on it with his finger}:  ÒHow is this Humptown IPA? I like to know ifÓ

Paul {cuts in}:  ÒRobert, lets let Maggie order first.Ó

Robert {startled}:  ÒOh, sorry. Go ahead Maggie.Ó

Maggie {unimpressed}:  ÒYeh, thanks Robert. IÕll have the French Pinot, thank you.Ó

Waiter {looking towards Paul}:  ÒAnd you sir.Ó

Paul:  ÒA MakerÕs Mark on the rocks, please

Roger {eagerly jumps in, looking at the waiter}:  ÒHow is this Humptown Ale? Is it very bitter?Ó

Waiter {with a big smile}:  ÒIÕm sure you will like it sir.Ó

Robert:  ÒOK, IÕll try that one.Ó

Waiter:  ÒAnything else? Pause

Jenifer:  ÒAnother cognac please.Ó

Waiter {looks around}:  ÒOK, very good. IÕll be back to the sunny side table with your drinks.Ó

Paul {leaning back in his chair, and jesters his palm towards Jenifer}:  Jenifer you were saying. Go on.Ó

Jenifer:  Òwhere was I ? Oh yeh. So the professor went on to say that when men masturbate, usually they think of someone else to be stimulated. And Many women think of self satisfaction; and they tend to use sex toys, much more than men do.Ó

Robert {jumps in}:  ÒI know men who use sex toys also, and itÕs pretty perverted.Ó

Paul {looking at Robert}:  ÒRobert, Jenifer is telling a story.Ó

Jenifer:  ÒYes Robert. So the question I asked was, ÒDo woman fantasize about sex toys?Ó He said, ÒProbably not, but maybe when they donÕt have one available?Ó Then I told him that when I save sex with a sex toy, I think of a man. And then, when I have sex with a man or woman I think of a sex toy.Ó

Paul {waiting for the waiter to place the drinks down}:  Òjust what we need for this conversation. Maggie, what did you think of the professorÕs statement?Ó

Robert {taking a sip of the beer}:  ÒI think the teacher had a point.Ó

Paul:  ÒThatÕs good Robert, but I was asking Maggie.Ó Then Paul raises his glass and says, HereÕs to hot and sunny conversations.Ó

Maggie {clings her glass and drinks along with the table}:  ÒWell, we have JenÕs view, RobertÕs view, totally voluntary, and now mine upon request. Paul, I expect something good.Ó

Paul {looking at Robert}:  ÒRobert, do you want to contribute anything? Get it out now.Ó

Robert {putzed and searching}:  ÒAhhh no.Ó

Paul {looking back at Maggie}:  ÒMaggie, you have the floor.Ó

Maggie:  ÒThank you Paul, and thank you Robert. I must be the minority, cause I always fantasize about men, or sometimes a man and a woman. Or multiple men and a woman, who is me. Paul itÕs your turn.Ó

Robert:  ÒI think the best sex is when you feel love.Ó

Maggie:  ÒYou keep on forgetting your name is Robert. And ROBERT that has nothing to do with what we are talking about.Ó

Robert:  ÒI just felt that was important.Ó

Maggie:  ÒTo you Robert. How about you Paul?Ó

Paul {gazing at both women}:  ÒI prefer the real thing. If I cant have a woman than itÕs certainly not a toy, it will have to be just my imagination.Ó

Jenifer {starts singing}:  ÒItÕs just my imagination, once again, running away with me. Just my imagination running away with me.Ó

Paul {laughs and claps}:  ÒYou got it Jen. IÕm afraid thatÕs what it is, just my imagination.Ó Then looking at both women}:  ÒI have to ask this question. Do you ever prefer a sex toy over a man, or woman, or person?Ó

Robert {jumps in callously}:  ÒHow could anyone prefer a toy over a real human, thatÕs perverted! I would hate to see these women as being perverted.Ó

Paul {a bit annoyed}:  ÒRobert I was asking the ladies, let them speak.Ó

Maggie:  ÒYeh Robert, let us perverted ladies speak.Ó

Robert:  ÒOh IÕm sorry. I was just expressing my opinion. ThatÕs all.Ó

Jenifer {with a huge smile}:  ÒI can do both. I prefer a man with a sex toy, or a man to be my sex toy. If it is a choice between a sex toy and a man, it all depends on the man. And to be honest, sex toys are less trouble.Ó

Robert:  ÒBut can a sex toy protect and love you?Ó

Jenifer:   ÒRobert, weÕre just talking about sex, and I can love myself. A sex toy is only one way I do.Ó

Paul:  ÒHow about you Maggie, whatÕs your take on it?Ó

Robert:  ÒI strictly prefer women. It amazes me how a woman can be attracted to a man. I can see how a woman can be attracted to other women.Ó

Maggie {pauses while the waiter shows up with the drinks}:  ÒYeh, thanks for your opinion Robert. Are you done expressing yourself? Well, I always prefer a man, and next a woman, and a sex toy for masturbation as a last choice. To be really honest, I love a threesome with two men, or a man and a woman.Ó

Jenifer {looking towards the waiter, who is pretending he is not listening to the conversation}:  ÒI have the cognac. Hope you are not offended by our conversation,Ó pause, ÒwhatÕs your name?Ó

Waiter:  ÒJohn. And no not at all. Customers like yourselves make my job more interesting. And who gets the Pinot?Ó

Maggie {raises her hand}:  ÒIÕm the Pinot. Paul, you have the Bourbon?Ó

Robert:  ÒYeh, thatÕs what he drinks. I have the beer.Ó

Paul:  ÒThanks Robert for answering for me.Ó

Jenifer {takes a long sip of her drink}:  ÒAhhhh, what do you look for in a man Maggie?Ó

Robert:  ÒShe probably likes them tall, dark and hansom.Ó

Maggie {looking coldly at Robert}:  ÒI believe Jen was asking me! That question. And to answer that question directed to me, it is usually a man thatÕs not self absorbed in himself, and thinking he has the answer for everybody. Like when he tries to answer for other people, especially for me.Ó

Robert:  ÒAre you referring to me? How can you imply that, you donÕt know me.Ó

Maggie:  ÒWell Robert, you just asked me a question, and answered it for me. What do you think? No donÕt answer, just think about it.Ó

Robert {looking at Paul}:  ÒWho is this woman accusing me of being rude? SheÕs being rude to me.Ó

Paul:  ÒReally Robert. You do it all the time. I constantly have to remind you not to interrupt. Maggie is letting you know straight up!Ó

Robert:  ÒWell, if you guys donÕt want me here, I can take my beer somewhere else.Ó

Jenifer {took the last sip of her drink}:  ÒItÕs not like that Robert. Just donÕt answer for other people. Answer for yourself, thatÕs all.Ó

Robert {takes a gulp of beer, and sighs}:  ÒOK, so you want me to stay.Ó

Maggie {reluctantly}:  ÒI guess even I want you to stay.Ó

Paul: ÒYou see Robert, you have been given grace by an intelligent beautiful woman. I bet that you didnÕt think that would happen to you today.Ó

Jenifer:  ÒI think we all need another drinkÓ

Maggie:  ÒI second that.Ó

Paul:  ÒGood idea.Ó

Robert:  ÒAm I allowed to say something?Ó

Maggie:  ÒSure, as long as itÕs not for me.Ó

Robert:  ÒCan we not talk about sex? ItÕs making me uncomfortable.Ó

Paul:  ÒThen you need to have a few more beers.Ó

Maggie:  ÒI second that too. And I think its good to share our views on sexuality. Especially between the opposite sex; thereÕs too much confusion and mis conceptions.Ó

Jenifer:  ÒMaggie, do you really feel that men and women can honestly talk about how they really view sex?Ó

Robert:  ÒGee, I donÕt know about that!Ó

Paul, Jenifer, and Maggie {turning towards Robert}:  ÒRobert!Ó

Robert:  ÒWhat?Ó Thinking, ÒOh crap!Ó
